The new ONS website went live on 27/8/11 and aims to make it easier for users to find content, reuse it (downloadable xls, csv, xml formats) and improve the accessibility to the site. Support to help users familiarise themselves with the site is available through: a quick tour, tutorials on YouTube and tips on finding content.
Future developments to the site will include an online data explorer tool and an Application Programme Interface (API). The API service will enable other parties, such as SASPAC, to programmatically discover and retrieve ONS content directly using their own online systems. It is planned that this service will deliver the 2011 Census results to users in 2012 – a service SASPAC are currently working with ONS to develop and test.
