UK and Scottish Census results


UK-pop-2001-2011Following the publication of the first Scottish Census results today, 2011 Census population and household estimates for the United Kingdom have also been made available by ONS.  The original data (.xls format) for the UK and Scotland are available from our 2011 Data page.

ONS have also launched the UK Census homepage which includes commentary and data visualisations relating to UK-wide Census results. Click the image on the left here to view a map (.pdf), produced by ONS, showing the percentage change between 2001 and 2011 Censuses by UK local authority.

2011 Census Key Statistics tables


Follow this week’s data release, final 2011 Census Key Statistics tables (England & Wales) with cell references and footnotes have been produced and are now available from SASPAC’s 2011 Census Support page – a direct link to the file (pdf) is here.

Census boundary downloads


SASPAC have made available 2011 Census Output Area and Super Output Area (LSOA/MSOA) digital boundaries in Mapshore (.bdy), MapInfo (.tab) and ESRI (.shp) file LSOA-Vizformats. Individual Local Authority files have been created from the national (full resolution, extent of the realm) England and Wales file released by ONS. In addition to the boundaries, MapInfo and ESRI file formats include summary Census statistics to allow users to easily map the data.

Digital boundaries are supplied under the Open Government Licence and Ordnance Survey OpenData Licence, appropriate copyright statements must be used when reproducing or using this material – see the ONS website for more details.

SASPAC v9.75 now available


Following yesterday’s 2011 Census data release, the SASPAC team have now prepared the software and data for users’ to access. v9.75 of the software is available to download. This release provides access to the 2011 Census datasets released on 11 December 2012, these tables include:

  • 35 Key Statistics Census tables (including 2 Welsh only tables)
  • 8 Quick Statistics Census tables* (including 2 Welsh only tables)

a full list of tables available in this release can also be found here (.xls). Tables have been published for local authorities and higher geographies in England and Wales. SASPAC System files containing these datasets are also available and downloadable from our 2011 data page.

Getting ready for Census data and SASPAC v9.75


On Tuesday 11 December ONS will publish the first detailed 2011 Census tables for Local Authorities in England & Wales. The data will include 35 Key Statistics and 11 Quick Statistics tables covering topics such as:

  • ethnicity
  • country of birth
  • occupation
  • language
  • qualifications
  • health

A list of table numbers and titles can be downloaded here (.xls) and draft table layouts can be found on the ONS website.

To provide users with access to these tables, SASPAC will be making this release available to our users via an updated version of the software (version 9.75) – downloadable as a full installation from our website. The SASPAC team will be processing and quality assuring the data before distributing as soon as possible in the days following the release. The supporting SASPAC System data files will also be downloadable from our website. Members will be notified as soon as v9.75 and the data is available via our blog.
