Future of the Census

01/04/2014

Following three years of research and user consultation into options for the 2021 census and future provision of population statistics in England and Wales, the National Statistician has recommended to the Board of the UK Statistics Authority that a predominantly online census should be undertaken in 2021, supplemented by the use of administrative and survey data. To read more about this announcement, please click here.

National Records of Scotland (NRS) have also announced they will be following a similar route, with a primarily online 2021 Census and supplementary use of administrative datasets. More this announcement can be found here.

Do you need Census data on the Armed Forces population?

06/02/2014

The 2001 Census produced a number of tables at ward level specifically relating to the armed forces population (AF001 to AF004). This population is likely to be  geographically concentrated across specific local authorities but key to understanding service provision and demand. ONS are preparing the equivalent 2011 Census tables and have circulated some table mockups (.xls) for users to comment on. The current intention is to provide this tables at regional level only. ONS are keen to hear from users on their data requirements and requested feedback by 11 February.
